Giles Miller has again collaborated with architects BDP on the British Pavilion at the world expo as part of a stellar line up of British creatives for the River Pavilion, Osaka, 2025. The concept centres around the theme of water, and in particular it’s relationship to the British Isles in respect to it’s dominant and brutal past as well as how we see our relationship with it in our sustainable and collaborative futures.
Giles proposed a suspended sculptural treatment for the internal and external surfaces of the pavilion which came to define the aesthetic of the project. The thousands of planar shapes engulf the structure and present a new way of treating a building’s facade aesthetically, as well as creating subliminal clarity for visitors as to where they should move as they flow through the experience. Giles brought in renowned British director Kwame Kwei-Armah to lead the creative team in the performative internal content, which would be delivered by legendary studio Factory 42 and Pimentel & Partners.
