Business leaders, entrepreneurs, academics, creatives and politicians from the UK and Asia attending the GREAT Festival of Innovation in March 2018 were welcomed to the event at the Asia Society inHong Kong by a specially commissioned artwork by Giles Miller.

The giant Union Flag is composed of hundreds of reflective ceramic ‘pennies‘ which are angled to reflectively manipulate surrounding light, illustrating the tones of the flag as well as creating a kind of interaction in the surface when the viewer moves around it.

The piece demonstrates a richness through the complexity of its surface, and it is a labour of love with each ‘pixel’ being fitted by hand in Miller’s London-based studio.   This technical yet hand-made production process is a fitting representation of the marriage of progressive innovation with the depth of the artisan that is so often characteristic of the best of British brands across design, fashion, architecture and the whole creative sector.
