Penny-Half Sphere

Broomhill Sculpture Park, Devon

The ‘Penny-Half’ spherical sculpture brings the studio’s acclaimed surface work into a three dimensional form in the first of our outdoor site-specific sculptures to date.

Using a combination of structure, composition and reflection the piece is made up of hundreds of stainless steel ‘pennies’ which are set into the centre of walnut timber lengths.

The structure appears as a mass of light that evokes a kind of digital chaos, but in construction it is in fact the antithesis of technological and merely mirrors light in a controlled way so as to appear as a kind of double-sided portal, contrasting as well as relating to the surrounding woodlands.
