We are pleased to showcase the very first in a new area of investigation for the studio – Castor and Pollux.
Named after the mythological un-identical twins, Castor & Pollux are twin lighting installations – the first 3-dimensional sculptural version of the GMS surface concept.
Each one consists of 8,500 suspended dark walnut and sheet brass components, or ‘pixels’ that are individually orientated by a pre-programmed binary-style system. The entire sculpture is programmed to continually rotate, and as it does so an optical effect results in the light’s form changing shape as it shows itself from every angle. The formations that can be seen in the cluster evolve, eventually showing an inner ‘reveal’ which appears in an almost digital form.
